Digital Mom Advice Tip #46: Register Your Biz as an LLC

From Day 1 of starting your blog, you are on the path to becoming  a business. And with any business, comes liability.

As soon as that first dime comes in the door – and even before it does come in the door, you need to think of yourself of a business and consider registering as a  LLC – Limited Liability Corporation – for your company.

Why Register?

To separate the assets and any potential liability of your business from the assets of your family. Why put your savings and personal family bank accounts at risk?

Where to Register as an LLC?

It’s easy and you can even do it online to save some bucks. I, (Colleen) , registered our LLC for ClassyMommy -for about $350. My husband is my partner in our LLC, and we named it Webanza LLC vs. ClassyMommy for additional flexibility as we can also include our other entrepreneurial online ventures and consulting work into the company.

We registered our LLC at and the process was seamless and easy. Other friends I know have used Legal Zoom online as well with great results. In the state of Pennsylvania, my fees came to about $350 but depending on your state your fees will vary slightly.

The other option is to utilize an attorney to assist in filing your paperwork. However, this will likely be more costly. If you have a family friend or family member who is a lawyer, this option might be more feasible for the average Mom starting a business. But for me, forming an LLC online was my best bet.
